Before moving to Dallas, Darren was an Assistant Coach at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, TX. While coaching there, he also spent time coaching for Austin Juniors Volleyball Club.  He qualified once at the National Invitational level. As a player in his younger years, he spent 2 years at Columbia College in Columbia, MO.  In those 2 years, the team was the National runner-up in 1999 and the National Champions in 2000.  Much of his coaching knowledge was learned under the guidance of then coaches Wayne and Susan Kreklow.  They are now the co-head coaches at the University of Missouri.
