Tamra Torres begins her fourth season as a Head Coach for Summit Volleyball.  As she puts it, she has been around volleyball most of her life.  Included in her playing career of over 20 years, she was a setter and middle blocker at the University of Oregon, where she was a 2 year captain, team MVP, and selected to the NCAA All-Region team.  She also held the Oregon team records for assists, kills and service aces.

Tamra moved to Texas after college and continued her playing career on several women’s and coed teams, qualifying for the USAV Adult National Championships on numerous occasions.  Additionally, she actively participated in grass and sand leagues in various formats.

She began her involvement with club volleyball in 2001, when she co-founded and co-directed the Garland Volleyball Association (GVA).  This season marks her 9th year at GVA as director.  The GVA had over 750 participants in the last year, and through the GVA’s Youth Leagues she has directed camps, clinics, private lessons and served as head coach for various teams.  She also served as a head coach for the Texas Assault volleyball club, coaching in the 12’s division.

In her spare time, Tamra enjoys reading, camping and playing tennis.  She also operates a successful gift basket business.  She remains in touch with, and considers her mentor to be, her former Oregon coach Chris Voelz, who is a past president of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
